GDPR, Start of Data Privacy

PDU Category: Technical

In July 2018, the Regis PMI South Roundtable held a layman’s discussion on the European Union’s Global Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR) in which we explored some its aspects.  In October we will have an opportunity to interface with Mark Hellbusch, a senior Subject Matter Experts (SME) who has guided Fortune 500 businesses and academia in managing GDPR’s impact on their organizations.  Mark will lead a deep dive into how project managers should address GDPR.  The biggest challenge organizations face today is understanding GDPR and how it really affects their current business processes.

The introduction of the GDPR has changed how organizations can utilize personal information on a global level within your business environment.  GDPR has changed the way organizations think about personal information and how best to utilize and protect that information.  The security and processes centered around personal information isn’t just IT’s responsibility; security and data privacy crosses into all business units.  Personal information privacy has become a global trend and even states within the U.S. are starting to adopt parts of GDPR on behalf of their citizens.

Mark will address some of the myths regarding GDPR and how an organizations culture drives accountability.  GDPR is just the beginning of a global change toward privacy and meeting the expectations of individuals.

We will discuss in-depth the following three (3) critical areas of GDPR and what they mean to your organization.

  • Individual Rights
  • Privacy by Design
  • Privacy by Default
