PM Oh No!  A Ground-Up Portfolio Management Approach

PDU Category: Technical

Demand Management, Portfolio Management

How do you stand up a PMO without being able to call it one?  How can you achieve a view of strategic alignment with disparate delivery silos and technology teams that all deliver projects differently at different maturity levels?  How can you reconcile multiple Project Management Information Systems (PMISs) when teams won’t agree on a single tool?  How do you achieve the executive’s end state and return value in this environment of pervasive ambiguity?

In this presentation, Ashley Rice and Brian Taylor will share how they handled all of these challenges and more as well as share a model that is based in best-practice that can be utilized to implement portfolio management from the ground up.

Presenters:

Ashley Rice, PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, ITILv3; Sr. Manager Technology Services – Charter Communications

Ashley Rice is an experienced technology leader with over a decade of both consulting and full-time experience in Portfolio, Program, and Project Management.  She has a unique breadth of experience in the Financial, Government, Communications, and Health Care sectors and has worn many other hats outside of project management from release manager, to Scrum Master, to business analyst, to technical writer, to infrastructure analyst. This experience has allowed her to see how portfolio management is done in a variety of organizations both large and small. Along the way, she has picked up best-practices as well as common pitfalls that has shaped her ability to stand up successful portfolio management programs. Ashley holds a bachelor’s degree from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and is currently seeking her MBA and the University of Denver

Brian Taylor; Sr. Manager Technology Services – Charter Communications

Brian Taylor is an experienced business leader and technologist quickly assimilating and extrapolating new information and ideas into executable solutions. He has a decade of experience in Consulting, Portfolio Management, and Vendor Management across Cloud Computing, Managed Services, Communications, Government, and Health Care sectors.  His focus has been developing end to end portfolio management and delivery systems to advise and assist executive management in creating strategies translating into tactical plans for the organization’s project management processes, project delivery, and product pricing. Over the course of his experience Brian has found portfolio management is not a one size fits all solution for any organization and made every mistake at least once. Setting conditions is crucial to the success of executing and maintaining Portfolio Management. Brian has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado – Boulder.
