Regis PMI South September Roundtable - Citizen Developer: An Alternative Software Development Approach

Strategic Business Management skills

Topic: Citizen Developer:  An Alternative Software Development Approach

Synopsis.  Citizen development is a business process that encourages non-IT-trained employees to become software developers, using IT-sanctioned low-code/no-code (LCNC) platforms to create business applications. This approach to software development enables employees -- despite their lack of formal education in coding -- to become Citizen Developers.  They use IT-sanctioned low-code/no-code (LCNC) platforms to create and customize existing software programs to suit a user's specific needs and improve operational efficiency within a company.  This session will address how this capability integrates into an organization and how PMs adjust to this process.

Learning Objectives: Attendees will understand

  • Why and How Citizen Developer evolved
  • How the Citizen Developer approach works
  • Pros and Cons of Citizen Developer and how to adjust for optimum results
  • How PMI is supporting the Citizen Developer program through formal certification
